Tips on getting a summer job as a private tutor? [mi]
My girlfriend works as an elementary school teacher (3rd grade, English and social studies) in our local school district, and she does tutoring during the school year through the school. This summer, she'd like to do some part-time work as a paid private tutor.
Can anyone here offer some advice on getting started doing this? She's looked into it somewhat, and it seems there are basically two alternatives: contracting through a company like Sylvan Learning Center or a local equivalent, or "hanging out a shingle" as a freelance, self-employed tutor. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? Any tips and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I just signed up on Berkeley Parents' myself. Thanks for the tip.

Also try advertising on your local Craig's list.
There are also companies that hire you as a contractor and pay you next to nothing per hour, but do all the leg work for you to find the jobs. If you're interested, let me know and I will dig up some of the names.
