Can't remember the title for an old superhero movie.

I'm looking for a superhero movie or TV show from the 70s or 80s. I can't remember the title or much of the plot, but I do remember one key premise.
First off, I'm pretty sure it's not Greatest American Hero, specifically because part of the premise was that when the hero in the suit sees the color red he loses his powers. I watched the first season of GAH recently and that didn't seem to be part of the premise.
Other than that, all I really remember was a scene where the hero was running alongside a car, talking to the driver, when he spots a red building (barn?) and loses his power.

Response by poster: Wow, that's it. Thanks a lot - this has been bothering me for about two years now.

Holy shit. I was this close to asking this same question any day now. Whew, thanks zeitgeist! No, seriously, I was really going to ask this. Do you remember a scene where he chewed bubble gum and that did some crazy shit? Like maybe it lifted something off the floor of the ocean? I don't think I've seen this movie since i was three.

YOU CAN DANCE... LIKE FRED ASTAIRE!!
God, what a bizarre film! It does stick with you, doesn't it? I haven't followed burn's link but I knew immediately what movie you were talking about and I can quote dialogue. And Christ, I haven't seen this thing since I was a kid. Terence Hill undubbed...
And Ernest Borgnine. Man he must have been a good sport, huh?

Absolutely. According to my (somewhat hazy, childhood) memory, this actually helped him hold his breath underwater indefinitely.

Hey, I have that on DVD! I could have actually answered a question if I was in to work earlier. It's one my brother and I watched often as kids (it must have been on HBO in heavy rotation at some point).

I can still sing the theme song to this movie.
"...you will discover / you can't judge a cop by his cover!"
oy.
