Elephant Riders Lyrics Question

Elephant Riders, by Clutch. I've been trying to figure out the meaning of the lyrics. I think it has to do with the King of Siam donating elephants to Abe Lincoln (a la The King and I), but I could be mistaken on that, and I have no idea where the trains come in.

I think "I'll keep pulling on the towpath.
You keep floating on the river." is a reference to how they used to use canals to ship large amounts of goods until trains came along. A horse walking on the side of the canal would tow a barge.
