Mid-December escapade.

Where should I go in December? I want an adventure.

I finish exams on the 11th of December, so I'm ready to fly out on the 12th. It really doesn't matter to me where I go...the more random the better.

Some requirements:

1) I can only fly out of Victoria International Airport (YYJ), Vancouver International (YVR), or Seattle-Tacoma (SEA).

2) I'd like it to be on the cheap. Yeap. I don't mind if I have to take connecting flights or have layovers. I would actually kind of like it. I'm thinking under $300 round trip...but I'm flexible.

3) It can be anywhere! All continents/countries/provinces/states apply.

So, MeFi, tell me where I should go. Websites/specific fares would be appreciated but so will suggestions.

Thanks

We had a great - and very affordable! - vacation to Buenos Aires last December. Food and accomodations can be found on the cheap, and since it's in the southern hemisphere, it has the added bonus of summer weather in mid-December!

Come visit San Francisco. AskMeFi can give you a million reasons why.

Also, SF MeFites would likely have a meetup in your honor, and you'd be welcome to come out sailing with me if the weather's decent.

Buenos Aires if you like good weather, UK if you like bad weather.

I'm going to SF in December. I am STOKED. And I'm paying $140 r/t out of MDW with Southwest. Bet you could beat me bigtime out of SEA.

orbitz is showing flights to cab san lucas for under $300 out of Seattle. Flights to Hawaii are around $400. New Orleans, $350. Boston, $300. Chicago, $230 (pretty at christmas!) Houston, $277.

Man, you could go anywhere. We need more info to help you. I found all these on orbitz just by plugging in random cities that I've been too. (except Cabo. I'd love to go there!)

$300 for the flight, or $300 total budget? Even with a strong Canadian dollar, an entire trip on $300 will mean couch surfing, sleeping in bus stations, and eating with the Hare Krishnas.

Response by poster: Thanks for the info and invites everyone!

Some more info:

The $300 would be for the flight only. I have friends and family all over the place, so most likely I'll be spending some time on their couches if I end up in one of their cities.

rhoticity, I've been on the Southwest website for quite awhile now, I'm not able to get many flights, looks like they're booking up quick. Thanks though!

Mexico!

Fly to San Diego on Southwest, get to San Ysidro (about 10 miles) by trolley/bus and cross the border to Tijuana, and then use long-distance buses (which are mostly excellent) and low-cost airlines to get where you want to go. There's a lot to see on Baja and in the northwest of the country, like Barranca del Cobre, though it's not as popular as, say, Cancun or Cabo San Lucas, and the number of cheap flights in Mexico has exploded in the last few years.

If you left on December 12 and came back on January 5, southwest.com is showing $99 each way, all in for $239.60. A one-way flight from Tijuana to Guadalajara, for example, on Volaris, with tax, is about $150 on December 12 - not insanely cheap, but worth considering if you want to hurl yourself south and then work your way back up.

WestJet just announced some really insane sale fares to Florida and LA from Toronto on approximately those dates--like $60 + taxes to Florida return. Are they in effect for Vancouver, too?
