How do we get rid of that rotten egg smell?

Our shallow well has run dry and we have been forced to resort to our artesian well. We've had this well for about 10 years, but only use it in emergencies as it has a strong sulfur smell (sulfur hydroxide?) and stains our sink and bathtub (probably iron). What is the most efficient, cost effective way to remove the sulfur and iron from our water?

Perdue's School of Agriculture has an informative page on Sulfur Water Control.

If it were me, I'd look into a whole-house iron filter (which also handles modest amounts of sulfer). I don't know anything about the product in particular, but a quick web search turns up this iron filter web page as a starting point.

An ozonator. If you want details, email's in my profile. I've been running one of these for five years and it works very well.

If it's just the smell you can get a charcoal filter: We had one on our house main. I put one in for my father as well and the effect is remarkable. They do not last particularly long though: varying by amount of flow through cartridge and amount of iron present.
