Seeking inexpensive lodging near Cranbury NJ in October.

A friend is visiting from Germany, and wants to stay near Cranbury NJ from October 13-27th. Any recommendations for inexpensive lodging would be welcome -- she cannot afford the hotel rates she found on obvious web searches.

What is inexpensive? There are some cheap motels in the area and I don't imagine they would have much of a web presence, try calling the Hightstown Motel @ 609.448.1388.

Hotwire is pretty good for this. I have to get lodging in central NJ every week (hmm, I need to hurry up and do this week's plans), and a couple of times, I've ended up at the Staybridge Suites in Cranbury. I think it showed up for something in the low 60s, maybe up to the low 70s, nightly. Plus you get free breakfast and dinner, the latter which even includes beer and wine. It's not the most healthy fare, but hey, it's free.

Do a hotel search on Hotwire by zip code; Cranbury and environs come up as "Central Jersey." If you see a hotel in about that price range, with (I think) three stars, and the icon for "free breakfast," it's almost a guarantee it's the Staybridge Suites. For an extended stay like your friend's, I think it's a good bet, since you get a kitchen, oven, etc.

Be advised that I tend to confuse Staybridge and another extended-stay place of similar caliber, though. So it might be the other one, whose name I can't recall now (but it's NOT Extended Stay America . . . blah).

Hope this helps . . .
