A Sunday night near O'Hare ... what to do, what to do?
I'm spending a Sunday night near O'Hare. I'd like to get a good meal and do something fun that won't keep me out too late. I won't have a car. Any ideas?

Seconding Gino's; that's what I did the last time I was stuck at O'Hare...and it was totally worth it.

Best answer: Take the CTA Blue Line to Logan Square and have dinner at Lula Cafe.

Best answer: Oh my god, seconding Lula. It's Ira Glass' favourite neighbourhood restaurant! We heard about it that way and, even being students, had to go up and try it.
Otherwise, if you want to stay close, your best bet is probably Rosemont (via the Blue Line).

Best answer: Lula's not super-close to the airport, but it is on the Blue Line, so it's easy.
Christ, if you can make it there, just go. Go go go go go.

It would also be fun to take the Blue Line three stops farther (than Logan Square) to the Damen stop; there are several cool bars and restaurant around there.

Response by poster: Thanks for the Lula tip. It was fantastic.
The neighborhood is straight out of a movie. Beautiful brownstones, a Norwegian Lutheran Church, a huge traffic circle-cum-park, and a take-one-replace-one video box.
I had a house salad and the leg of lamb. The salad was large and tasty. The tomatoes were actually red. The lamb was delicious. It was served with mashed turnips and pickled green beans. The green beans we a great complement. I was too full for dessert. I'll probably regret that.
The waitress was indifferent. Prompt, but not particularly friendly. The manager became effusive after I mentioned the posting on AskMe.
It was well worth the 45 minute trip from my hotel to the restaurant. Thanks AskMe!

Take a cab to Lou Malnati's in Parkridge or Giordano's in Rosemont or Gino's East in Rosemont. Better yet, try them all!
