A Logical Question

How can I get my SK-1 on in Logic Express?
So, I got Logic Express. It's good. My controller controls, I'm able to put together rudimentary songs, I can stick noises into tracks and move them around, and I can send various things through other... things. Wonderful!
One thing is missing, though, and it seems far too basic to justify $700 for the pro version -- out of the box, it appears you can't play your own samples as an instrument (apart from sticking a waveform/loop in a track, which I can do).
How can I create my own sample banks for the EXSP player -- or, what cheap Logic-compatible plugin will let me take my own recorded samples (in WAV or MP3) and play them as an instrument?
This may be a basic question, but Google searches always point to Logic Pro or a bewildering assortment of VST plugins.

Response by poster: Thanks, minedev. Unfortunately, I realized soon after posting that I already had purchased the perfect tool to do what I want on my hard drive in VSamp -- which I hadn't realized came with a Logic plugin.
Other advice appreciated, but I think I'm good.

Since you cited the SK-1, you might get a kick out of this virtual VL-1 (VSTi plus standalone app). You can even use the calculator functions that the original had; not very useful but plenty of cheesey retro fun.

The best freeware solution I found as of 2 years ago when I was a VST addict is rgc's sfz. Very simple, very solid. I believe it's PC only, and I just noticed Apple in your tags. I'm leaving this in here in case it's useful for someone else who finds this thread.
Not matching the implicit free requirement I've managed to read into your question because I'm cheap, polyphontics appears to be a reasonably capable sound font editor for OS/X. From what I can learn about EXSP, this type of process is what you're looking for, the creation of sf files.
Note that none of this is Logic specific, I'm completely unfamiliar with Apple music software. In fact, I just read their features list and it seems to imply that external instruments are disabled. Because I love my little macbook pro, I refuse to believe that. If you still have a a chance to exchange Logic for Ableton Live, it has a sampler.
The music related forum I use to find answers to this type of question is KVR. If no one here has the perfect answer, make a stop there.
