MovieFilter: Reclusive apartment-dweller spies on woman across the way and begins to suspect she is a cannibal murderer. What movie am I?

The protaganist is a socially stunted odd guy. His mother is either rude and belittling with an asshole boyfriend, or infirm and requiring constant care. I can't remember which, but I believe it's the first.

He, through some sort of spyhole or with binoculars or something, is able to see into the apartment of the beautiful woman across the way. He initially spies because she is attractive, and eventually ends up meeting her somehow and forming a relationship.

But as time goes on, and he continues spying on her he begins seeing--or thinking he is seeing--horrifying cannibalistic things going on in her apartment. Like her hacking a big suspicious hunk of meat on the cutting board. At some point there is a severed head in a pot on the stove. Et cetera.

But every time he goes over there to try to find evidence, he finds nothing.

At the end of the movie, just when he has had his suspicions quelled at last, he discovers secret cage type thing under her kitchen, and realizes it was all true. And then he probably gets eaten or something.

I enjoyed this movie, and cannot remember the title nor the names of any of the actors in it. Help!

Response by poster: Bingo on Buddy Boy!

Christ, you guys are fast. It's not been 5 minutes since I posted.

And now I'm pissed...I IMDB'd several French actresseses, Emmanuelle Beart and the like, I was millimeters away from IMDB searching Emmanuelle Seigner, but I didn't because I didn't really know who she was, just the name. I would've been very proud of myself had I done that. Instead, I am a failure.

Thanks, iconomy!

Oddly enough, this was also a subplot in the very twisted movie Happiness
