What to do in Woodstock, NY this weekend?

Me and my sweetheart are making a last minute trip to Woodstock this weekend. Rental car from NYC, staying just off Tinker Rd this Friday through Sunday.

I've had a few recommendations from the friend who is loaning us his apartment, but I want a few more ideas.

Places to laze about on a blanket and enjoy nature: while we enjoy Central Park, we would love to get our dose of unstructured green. Also interested in easy hikes (less than 3 miles, not much climbing) and places where could get wet (wading and/or swimming).

What to do in town: places to eat, hang out, shop.

And I've heard something about a Buddhist Monastery?

Any other cool things to do in the area are appreciated.

Head to Wilson Park, on Wittenberg Road, for chilling out on the lawn.

For hiking? Overlook Mountain, on the top of Mead's Mountain Road. Three miles or less on a well-tended trail. A Tibetan Buddhist monastery can be found at the entrance to the hike.

For eats, Bread Alone is ideal for breakfast and a light lunch. Oriole 9 for a more gourmet-ish experience, The Bear Cafe for a splurge. Gypsy Wolf for (heavy-on-the-stomach) Tex Mex and Margeritas.

The Buddhist monastery is Karma Triyana Dhamachakra. It's interesting but I am not sure how much they view themselves as a tourist site.

Try New World Home Cooking on Rt. 212 heading out towards Saugerties. A rollicking good time.

For a great organic, healthy breakfast head out on 212 in the other direction (towards Bearsville). About a half mile out of town on the left hand side of the road is a market with a little juice/food bar attached. They make great fresh snacks and shakes/juices.

I believe in summer there is a flea market every Saturday/Sunday behind Bread Alone. Good stuff there.

There are good trails along the creek if you go up to the public parking off Tinker Street by the soccer fields. I can't remember the name of the street but ask a local where the Shakespeare outdoor theater and soccer field is and they can direct you. There are plenty of places to loll about on the rocks and dip your toes in the rapids. Also a couple of swimming holes. It's a little hard to find, but like I said, try to find the soccer fields

Ok the trails I'm talking about are in Comeau Park. You take a left at the street AFTER Neher St., which doesn't seem to have a name and just keep walking up that street. Here's a map that you'll have to zoom into pretty tight:

Response by poster: Thanks! I'm sure these suggestions will round out the moments available between the intense loafing we plan to do.

Max's farm is not in Woodstock. It's in Bethel.
