Is there any way to call United Kingdom 0800 (freephone) numbers from overseas? - or to find out if the company in question has a non-0800 number registered?

I've used skype - At the time I did not need any dial-out minutes or such but that may have changed.

I'm sure that in the past I have gotten through using an international operator but have had to pay standard overseas call rates.

I'm with Hates_. You should be able to phone the 0800 number but you will get a short automated message telling you that if you proceed with the call it will not be toll-free.
