Can anyone suggest things to do and places to stay in Zadar, Croatia, or any of the islands near it?

Going to Zadar, Croatia from June 18th to the 23rd. Anyone have any suggestions for where to stay? Things to do? What about the islands near it? Thanks.

Are you traveling further south (or north) along the Dalmatian coast, or are you just getting to Zadar and staying there? Are you more interested in nature and more outdoors-y activities or do you prefer culture & sightseeing?

Without knowing your preferences, and off the top of my head, I'd suggest visiting three well-known Croatian national parks: the Kornati Islands (especially if you enjoy diving), Plitvice and Velebit (good for trekking and mountaineering).

I'm also headed down there during that week. I don't know what you're into, or how many people are going with you, but one popular activity is island hopping: either sailing or swimming.

The islands themselves are gorgeous, more or less equally so. You'll be closest to Dugi Otok, so that might be a natural first choice. Otherwise Mali LoĊĦinj is revered for its healthy and clean environment while if you want something odd, Goli Otok ("naked island") still boasts an old communist-era maximum security prison. Massive ferries operate throughout the summer.

I've found hotels in the area to be more or less the same. Most of them were built (and look like they were built) by socialism. But they're slowly fixing them up and they're getting better every year.

Have a good trip!
