Banjo tracks?

Banjo Filter: Looking for great foot-stompin', lightnin-pickin' songs, a la Phillip Roebuck's "Pocket Knife", etc. Suggestions?
Are you talking about a more punk-sounding approach to banjo like the one that loads on Roebuck's Myspace page? Or just good fast rocking classic bluegrass?

Tony Trischka, Bill Keith, Bela Fleck and of course Earl Scruggs are the players that have probably had the most influence on modern banjo music. If you are really interested in the 5 string banjo check out The Banjo Newsletter. it is the best hobby newsletter that I have ever seen.

Groups or soloists? Fast recent ensembles that feature banjo: Split Lip Rayfield, The Meat Purveyors, The Hillbilly Gypsies

[Oops, TMP was mandolin, not banjo. The bluegrass done made me light-headed.]

BIG ole seconding the Avett Brothers. Saw them locally a few weeks ago. so freaking great. I felt like I was at a punk show, so much energy. (and they have a new album coming out tomorrow)
also another great band (but apparently broke up in 2000, which might explain why I havent heard much from them lately) is The Bad Livers. great 3 piece from Austin. check out Delusions of Banjer.
