What are some of the coolest 60's -70s heist/action/crime movie previews (or current retro previews) or opening introductory movie or t.v. montages?
I’m thinking of the somewhat retro bit from Snatch, vaguely similar to the opening from Baretta or Starsky and Hutch but more british and stylized like Get Carter or The Italian Job (not so much Trainspotting, similar, but more stylized with shorter pacing) The opening in GTA3 might be a good example. Something with a funky or jazzy soundtrack and the action freezes.
I’m planning on doing a family video sort of like an opening movie sequence. Is there even a name for that sort of visual style?

Hawaii 5-0 That herky-jerky camera work set to the beat of the music and the long zoom on Jack Lord is wayyy cool.

Not 60s - 70s and not heist but I love the trailer for Buffalo '66.

Ronin: one of the best 70's heist/car chase movies ever (even though it was made in 1998), and the trailer has all that snappy-cutting interspersed with pithy text stuff.

the trailer for bullitt seems to be about as good as it gets in terms of what you're looking for:

The opening sequence of the original Thomas Crown Affair (1968) is all hip and mod and multi-split screen.

The opening sequences for the TV series of The Saint (starring Roger "raised eyebrow" Moore) are really nice. There's a montage on YouTube that I looked at a couple of weeks ago, but it's blocked here at work. Have a snoop around and I'm sure you'll find it.

The video for Sabotage is the definitive word on the subject, IMO.

The Rockford Files and S.W.A.T. both had great intros, complete with theme songs that were top forty hits in the 70s. The answering machine messages from The Rockford Files even got a post in the blue.

The opening for Black Belt Jones. The music, the slo-mos, the freeze-frames, and the sound effects.
