Essay on choosing glasses

I am looking for essays on the subject of choosing a new pair of glasses at the optican.
Deciding what frames to buy has proven to be a hard desicion for me since you wear them all the time. I wonder if you know any author who has dissected the qualms and trouble one gets through at the optican.

Response by poster: Maybe I wasnt very clear. I am not looking to find out about what frames that fits what faceshapes but writings about the experience of going to the optican.

Perhaps it would help if you gave a little background on why you are interested in this information. SteveInMaine probably thought you were having trouble choosing glasses for yourself, and suggested a way to help you choose. But you seem to be looking for something else - could you elaborate?

The only thing that comes to mind is the poem "Monet refuses the operation" by Lisel Mueller.

Best answer: The Adventure of a Near-sighted Man by Italo Calvino is not so much an essay as a short story but it addresses what you are looking for.
The protoganonist finds that he needs glasses and tries on a few different styles and has all kinds of thoughts about it. It's a really, really good story.

Response by poster: Sorry for being unclear. What I am looking for is stories and essays like the one posted by amethysts that deals with near-sightedness and glasses. Preferably they also discuss the process of going to the optican. The reason for this is that i am writing a essay on the subject of the consumer experience for a chain of opticans.
