Really Cool Video Project

3D Video Project: I am trying to work in three dimensional video just like people do 3D photos. Any advice?

I am getting ready to write a proposal for one of my Media Studies classes about doing a 3d video project. I don't have a ton of ideas yet but I'm mostly working off a friends project from last year.

Deb did 3d photos based off a Loreo 3D lens. (http://www.loreo.com/pages/products/loreo_3dcap.html) They were great and she also used their viewer.

I want to do something similar with two Panasonic 4ECM cameras. I have two main concerns.

1.) Can I simply make some kind of weird mount to film with the lenses being spaced as evenly apart as the human eye is? (Really is it that simple because when I look at the 3d photo lenses that seems to be as simple as it is…)
2.) I don’t have a lot of ideas for viewing. The best I can come up with is trying to use very small LCD screen and the “loreo dark grey deluxe viewer” (as seen on left side bar in previous link)

Any comments or ideas? Especially about the viewing problem. I have extensive FCP and AVID experiance, etc... I think this could be fun….

Best answer: 1) It really is that simple. If you space them further apart, you get a wild everything-is-tiny effect. It may be important that both cameras are tilted slightly inwards (pigeon-toed), to point directly at the subject you're focusing on.

2) Buy a batch of 3D glasses online, and make your movie into an anaglyph.

You'll probably also want some way of syncing the video of the cameras while you're recording, or else they'll be some fraction of a frame out of sync.

Here are some display ideas

Here's a 'How to do 3D' film (in Real Media unfortunately) that might help
