UKfilter: "thank you" gift for my midwife and nurse group here in the UK.

I am going in for surgery (c-section) and having a friend flying in and willing to bring in American goods. Taking a look at this I should be having her bring Reese's peanut butter cups, Pepperridge farm cookies, strawberry twizzlers. I want to make the the thank you sort of offbeat but willing to take better suggestions. My friend is bringing in a stroller for me so I want to make things sort of light for her to pack.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Oreos*
Hersheys
Kool Aid

(*Yes I know you can get Oreos in the UK but they're spanish and IMHO too crumbly and carboard-like)

I might be missing something here... but... Is your midwife American? I know that my American friends often miss various US products but when they share them with me (or other brits) the response is usually fairly "meh". So you might want to reconsider, or get something non-food. Hershey's chocolate is alright, for processed chocolate, but hey, we're closer to Belgium and they do it so much better. Likewise Oreos - what's all the fuss about?

If the midwife is American, ignore my previous paragraph.

Response by poster: I was thinking on the line of something "different" as part of the thank you. But if you think there is a better 'thank you' gift to midwife group or nurses I am willing to entertain those suggestions. I am new to the culture so willing to concede to the more experienced in this area.

I see what you mean... lots of food suggestions.

I have a few ideas that your friend might not have to bring. I just found Etsy.com and just love the things on there.

Maybe she can go to a nice bath store and get some bath bombs/fizzies and such. If she is in the Orlando area, there is a nice one in the Downtown Disney marketplace.
Otherwise, there are lots of little places other than Bath and Body Works that have nice, relaxing things.

Get the midwife a Mr T bobblehead. She'd love that.

As a professional organizer, I like the idea of giving consumables - they are less likely to become clutter! But I agree that the food choices might not be the best - especially less healthy choices that some might not really want to eat.

If they are tea drinkers, some nice and unusual teas can be a good gift.

And I like the idea of soaps and such. Here are some that look appealing:
- Gianna Rose Robin's Egg
- Blooming Lotus
- Pangea Organics

And I'm also a fan of Etsy - a great place to buy things. I've got things bookmarked for the next time someone I know has a baby!
