Weird Alaska

I'm going to the Iditarod in February and March, and I'm looking for publications that might be interested in offbeat tales of the race/Alaska/mushers/etc.

Specifically, I'm looking for paying publications.

I'm basically interested in exploring the strange side of the event, such as the hallucinations that mushers apparently experience due to sleep deprivation, odd encounters with Alaskan wildlife and anything else that might fall beneath the umbrella of "strange" or "offbeat."

Have you been published before?

If it's any good, you can sell something like that to any number of magazines (Maxim, Rolling Stone, et al.)

If you are well-known within the editing circles, you could 'pitch' it first. But if you're just starting out, then focus on the writing and worry about this later.

Best answer: I have no idea what their policy is regarding submissions and payment, but you may hit up Bark Magazine and see what they say.

It's not just mushers, right? I've read some intersting stuff on the Idiabike, maybe a cycling publication would pay for an article.

Westways. Does Alaska Airlines have a magazine. There are several different dog magazines. Have fun. Take warm clothing.

Bark, Dog World, Dog Fancy, and the assorted specialty malamute, husky, and sled dog magazines might be interested. Bark is the most likely to pay well.

Best answer: Maybe any airline mag if they have AK flights (or partner w/ someone to get passengers there.

Your story line is a good fit for Outside, but I don't know if they take freelance work or only use their staff writers. Any of the mens mags might like it.
