Disable/adjust Wii-remote volume??

Is it possible to disable/adjust volume for the Wii remote?
I appreciate that my SO needs to play Zelda, as it's brand new. The sword/fighting sounds that come out of the Wii remote are driving me CRAZY and there is nowhere in our apartment where I can escape! It is difficult to concentrate on work (and unfortunately, sometimes I need to work from home) or read a book or sleep while he is playing. I am trying to not be unreasonable, and I'm hoping that maybe someone knows whether the volume can be disabled/adjusted so we can compromise! Thank you!

Yeah. I don't have any noise worries, but the zelda sounds sounded like utter ass to me until I turned it down to about 30%. Then the Wiimote speaker stopped clipping.
Hi-fi, baby!

Thirding. I have no idea why they felt the need to deafen you with the sound of your sword, but after I figured out how to do this yesterday, the effects have been much more pleasurable.

Same issues when I was playing tennis... (I kept hitting the 'minus' button on the remote, thinking that might turn the sound down...it doesn't.)

Thanks! I've taped off the remote speaker when the wife gets grumbly about the admittedly obnoxious Zelda sword sounds.

Press the Home button, then click on the bottom of the screen where it says Wii Remote Settings. You can adjust the volume of the Wiimote from the menu that comes up.
