Making Chex Party Mix Without the Chex?

Can you help me find rice, corn, and wheat cereals in the UK that roughly correspond with Chex?

I'll be spending the holidays in the UK with my future in-laws, and I'd love to make them the party mix I remember as a child. But the last time I was there, I couldn't find Wheat or Corn or Rice Chex, or their British equivalents.

Is there a way to make this using British cereals? My luggage is going to be crammed enough as it is without trying to smuggle in three different types of American cereal.

If Chex are not available there, Shreddies are. They're almost the right shape too. Crispix should be too, but I don't see it on Kellogg's UK site.

Here's a snack mix recipe that includes Crispix, Shreddies, and Cherrios.

Have you considered shipping the Chex MixTM ingredients by way of U.S. Mail or FedEx (etc.) in time for your arrival in the U.K.?

Best answer: Fedex is extremely costly for this. Funny enough, my partner shipped me a case of assorted cereal last time he was in the states. This included a set of Chex for the exact same purpose. I just made my 2nd batch yesterday ;-9 I had come down with a craving for it.

Alternative is to seek shops specializing in American goodies. I wonder if Herods might carry such ordinary products?

It's probably too late to ship by ordinary means. Perhaps you should just pack enough Chex for a half-batch (1.5 cups of each Chex), in a tupperware type box.

Shreddies are almost identical to the wheat Chex.

If you end up having to take ingredients with you, you should cut down on the bulk by taking a bag of commercially made chex mix.

No! Perhaps it's 'cause I'm strictly a Corn Chex kinda guy, but I find Shreddies revolting. Don't waste your money on them. (Their weird taste is more like Life cereal.)

Response by poster: I think I shall bring a smallish amount of Chex as suggested by Goofyy. Part of the joy of the mix is the delicious smell as it roasts in the oven.

I'll also take a look in Harrod's (I've not been before) and see if they have it, just in case the in-laws get addicted and want to make it for themselves.

When I googled "American Food in London" I came across many posts from American ex-pats desperate for goodies from home. (I also discovered the appalling "Oreo O's Cereal" -- bleeeagh.)
