New York + Punk Rawk + Next week?

So I left NYC in 2000, right around the time Coney closed. Used to go there about every week, as great bands came through all the time. Here I am, going back for the first time in years. What's happening between 12/9 and 12/13? Anybody playing? Where are the new record stores? Is see/hear still open? What's new in the New York Punk Rock?

New Yorker and ex-punk rocker here.

The scene locally seems to be in a bit of turbulence right now. Since both CBGBs and the Continental closed over the past six months, there really have been no venues in Manhattan for punk/hc bands to play in. Several newer LES clubs such as Lit and Club Midway still do shows occasionally... The sainted ABC No Rio is still around and there are plenty of shows in Brooklyn, mainly in the Williamsburg/Bushwick area. You might want to check out ohmyrockness.com as well - the site is a dedicated calendar for punk/hardcore/indie shows in New York that would be your best resource for music of a guitar-based, non-mainstream nature in the city.

See/Hear is gone alas. However, the old lefty bookstore Bluestockings recently moved into a large space on Allen Street and has a lot of stuff similar to what See/Hear used to have. St. Marks Books is still around and, of course, there are standby record stores like Generation, Bleeker Bob's and Other Music that are still surviving.
