Where can I buy cheap posters (~£5) in London? I need to cover my dirty walls!

This is about the right time of year for dropping in to your local student union and taking advantage of the poster sales aimed at new freshers.

If you're willing to make the trip, there are tons of poster dealers in in the open-air Camden Town markets. I was there last December and came home with a HUGE Scarface poster for about £20. If you don't want/need a HUGE poster, they have lots of other sizes at varying prices. If you take the Northern line tube to the Camden Town stop, take Chalk Farm Road north and over the bridge. The specific vendor I'm speaking of should be on the east side of the road, just past the bridge (across from the Camden Lock Market).

Maybe my poster was about £15 - that's what my boyfriend seems to remember...

Rasterbator!

You may be able to get large cotton batik tapestries (more expensive than posters but cover larger area) wherever hippies and pot-loving folks congregate. Also Indian markets often have these.

Another option is big cheapie maps. You could rasterbate some maps of wherever you are. (Eg some of the mashup Tube maps linked on BoingBoing.net earlier this year?)

See if any local library is having a sale of their old books/maps; often you can get great deals at these.

Ikea! They have lots of posters, usually under 5 UKP each. Check the website to see the kind of thing they have, and prices. They also sell cheap frames too.

The lovely London Transport museum posters are 9.95 UKP, but for me they define London.
