Will you be able to surf the internet with the Wii?

Best answer: Yes, they've announced that they have a version of the Opera browser available through the Virtual Console (the Wii's online store thingy). The browser's going to be free until next June or July, and no price has been announced for after that. As to how well you'll be able to surf, I don't know about how text input is handled, which may be a pain for URLs and stuff (unless it supports USB keyboards, which I don't think they've confirmed, one way or the other).

Also, it's supposed to have Flash support (unlike Opera for the DS), which will make it even easier to zone out with YouTube, now from the comfort of my couch :)

It is speculative to answer definitively, but a version of GNU/Linux will be written and released for the Wii, which I imagine will allow you to surf the web with Firefox, etc.

There should be a rule that if you copy and paste your exact question from Ask Metafilter into Google, and the very first answer (or for that matter, almost every answer on the first page of results) gives you a perfectly valid answer, you should be given a question-asking timeout.
