Excel pop-up won't leave

There's a little pop-up menu beside a cell in Excel. I cannot click it open to see what it's trying to offer, and I cannot "clear all contents" in that cell to get rid of it!
How do I get rid of this damn thing? Pasting over it with new data does nothing. It adds no benefits and I can't get rid of it.

Maybe this? Go to View -> Toolbars -> Drawing. Select the arrow (the second one from the left, the white one). Try to use that to select and remove the dropdown box (drag a box over it, and then hit delete)?

It's definitely a cell validation issue. Jaimystery's got it.

Excel will sometimes do this if you put numbers into a cell formatted for text. Like the Evil Mr. Paperclip, it's trying to "help" by driving you mad.

It's also possible that just saving the spreadsheet will remove the pop-up. (I'm currently working within Excel and an auto-fill menu kept popping up, blocking the cell text. When I saved the spreadsheet, the pop-up disappeared.)
