Mac OSX Wireless Filter

OSX 10.4.7 Filter: I work for a small college IT department. We've got a handful of MacBooks available for check out from the library. How can I force the OS login to double as the 802.1X wireless login?
In order to log on to these laptops users have to sign in and authenticate against the LDAP server. In order to do this the laptops have to access the network. According to this article it's possible to export 802.1X preferences to the login window. So why isn't it working for me? If you have done this, tried to do this and failed, or have any enlightening info please respond. Thanks y'all.

Hmmm... I don't have an 802.1X to test with, so can't help you there. At least one guy seems to have it working (some comments are past the ads).
The KB article suggests that if you've correctly exported the configuration then a NetworkAuthConfigList key appears in com.apple.loginwindow. Does this command list that value?

This has the advantage of working even without the loginwindow (i.e. after sleep/wake). Replace the term "PennKey" with whatever 802.1x credentials you use at your institution.
