Things to do in Wichita related to law

In search of temporaryish legal career opportunities in Wichita, Kansas.

My girlfriend is from Wichita, and has taken a 6-mo job there, with the possibility to stay on longer. I am from coast where the sun rises. We both have recently earned law degrees. I've been clerking in a US territory since getting that degree a year ago. I like policy, legislation, etc., but would be up for more or less any legal thing. Any thoughts on temporary legal career opportunities in Wichita? Thanks for any suggestions.

paid temporary legal work is nigh impossible to find, if you are hoping to do substantive legal work, instead of the dreaded "document review" that most legal services agencies hire newly licensed attorneys for. on the other hand, sometimes there are substantive temporary positions available (I had one in Big Firm, drafting internal memos of law). your best bet for those is to get working with a recruiter, get that recruiter to like you and recommend you for the ones that are substantive, instead of highly paid monkey work.

on the other hand, most legal clinics will jump up and down in paroxysms of pleasure if you will happily do substantive work for them, gratis, while you look for real work. it's not a bad plan, as it's good experience and often provides excellent references and networking.

I live in Wichita, although I cannot think of anything to help you find temp legal work off the top of my head, I would like to say WELCOME! I will definitely keep my ears open and ask around for you!
