children's animated cartoon: sad, though. a bird that migrates every winter between country x and country y (maybe france/us) ends up forgetting to migrate and dies, possibly at the statue of liberty. any clues?

i saw it in israel when i was a child, but its quite likely that it was one of those international cartoons, like maya the bee... any help?

Best answer: Could you be talking about an animated version of Wilde's The Happy Prince? The bird doesn't forget to migrate, and the statue is not the statue of liberty, but it's the first thing I thought of.

There was, in fact, an animated version.

Yeah, my first thought was the Happy Prince too - very sad, statue and bird, and the bird died because he stays.

Response by poster: egads! good find, despite my totally sketchy details. sad but uplifting somehow, no? the bird dies because he stays, but the reward for staying is actually much better than the pursuits his moving comrades have, no?
