From whence doth Ceiling Cat?

What's the history behind ceiling cat?
I've heard it originated here on MeFi, but I'm not sure (if I was 100% positive, I'd post this on MeTa). There's nothing to substantiate this theory on the MeFi wiki, and the Wikipedia page is severely lacking. So, dear MeFites, what is the history of ceiling cat? Where did it start? Whose cat is it? Etc.?
Someone asked a similar question here, but it seems to have gone unanswered.

The wikipedia image page has links to a forum where it was posted in February. The poster (an Australian?) said someone emailed it to them.

I'd guess it's a picture of a situation where a cat got trapped in the roofspace and had to be rescued. But googling is getting me nowhere.

The relationship between ceiling cat and MeFi arguably started with this deleted post. But that was May 28, and the image was nominated for "Picture of the Day" as a joke on April 1 on wikipedia, so clearly it was around far before that.

I started the "deleted post". I found Ceiling Cat on IRCImages.com, a website that just posts images for people to comment about. A lot of weird stuff, a lot of pr0n, a lot of ogrish.com stuff.
Anyway, Ceiling Cat showed up there a few times, and I got a little C C crazy and posted it here. I still think it's pretty funny, but not to the same extent I once did.
Here are the origins, according to Wiki.

Dubious claim-to-fame #14,387: if true, that would make moi only the third mefite to comment on or mention Ceiling Cat, after weretable & the undead chairs, and doohickie.

Fark originally had a thread or photoshop that said "Every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten."
It's become somewhat of a cliche over there, and this certainly seems to be a tie-in.
