How do I find a cheap 1 room shack at the Jersey Shore for the summer?

Requirements: wireless internet / within 1 mile of the beach / cheap cheap cheap / New Jersey

Is there some cool website like craigslist for beach goers/renters?

nothing here?

If you are close, you might be best off taking a drive out and looking for "for rent" signs. most people don't need to go to any more effort than that.

And obviously, check the less popular towns. Lavallette is close to Seaside Heights, but cheaper if that is the sort of thing you want. If you want just a beach and nothing else to do, you can probably bust out a map and find more obscure places to look.

There are oodles of Jersey Shore vacation rental sites that let you sort by price and date and even book online. There are so many I won't even look for them for you -- just search on Jersey shore vacation rental.

Towns do vary in desirability. Shacks are getting fewer and far between -- the thing now is to tear down that old family one-story shack and build a three-story vacation home with garage, multiple decks, and all that stuff. So the prices up and down the shore have risen. But you can still find deals. Think about going in the shoulder season (before school gets out, or in September). Also look for the towns that aren't the major hot spots, as mikepop suggests. Check out Long Beach Island and the smaller towns south of Ocean City. Look at Margate and Belmar.

In high school we rented a shack in Margate. It didn't even have a phone line (this was pre-cell phones, so that was kind of a hassle). But it was cheap and they had no problem renting to 17 year olds carrying boxes of wine coolers, so that seems like a good place to look.
