FirefoxFilter: why is the date displayed in American format (mm/dd/yy) using firefox on a website, and correctly (dd/mm/yy) using IE? Followup, how do I fix my firefox settings?

Try this frame.
Any of the Bills in there, their dates are backwards. e.g. the Aboriginal Heritage Bill, it wasn't second read on 5 Feb, Parliament wasn't sitting, it was read on 2 May.

Best answer: Basically, I believe the problem is that you're displaying the page in Firefox in "American English," and you need to change it to "Australia English."
In Firefox:
Tools -- Options -- Advanced -- General Tab
Click "Edit Languages"
Select "English/Australia" from the dropdown. Click "Add."
Select "English/Australia" in the list box. Click "Move Up" until it's at the top.
Hit OK twice to exit out of options. Reload the page.

Best answer: Well, there's nothing in the page source code, so they're doing something server-side to sniff the country code and output appropriate date formats. Try Options > Advanced > General > Edit Languages and make sure that English/Australia [en-au] is at the top of the list and delete English/United States [en-us] entirely, or at least move it down after English [en].

I suppose another question could be: Why is English English never the default?

Well, I'm sure all the Web browsers that are developed in England use English English as the default.
