How does bankruptcy at Spirit Airlines affect already purchased tickets?

Will my husband be able to use his round trip ticket in early January?

My husband made a reservation and purchased a round trip ticket for early January to a scientific conference. We just learned that Spirit Airlines is declaring bankruptcy. How might this affect his plans?

Thanks, hive mind, we appreciate all of you!

Best answer: I took a look at the form 12b-25 filing the airline made with the SEC on November 13th. Their current plan is to restructure their debt in a way that is "not expected to impair" customers. However, this just means he probably won't have worthless tickets — it is still possible that the restructuring might result in fewer routes. If so, the ticket might end up getting canceled, which may require result in a refund or rebooking on an alternative route.

Actually, while previewing my comment, I just found a NerdWallet article, Spirit Airlines Preparing for Bankruptcy: Frequently Asked Questions, which looks like a pretty good explainer.
