Good hotel close to Fox Theatre, ATL?

Later this month, my wife and I are going to see Wicked @ the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. I'm not too familiar with Atlanta. Can someone recommend a good hotel by this theatre? Within walking distance would be cool. (Do I want to walk from this theatre after the show?)

Hotel Indigo.

The Hotel Indigo directly across the street is an old (InterContinental chain) hotel with a terrace where the early crowd to the theater hangs out for coctails. The rooms are small.

About a mile down the street is the Hyatt Regency, a monument to 60's space age kitsch with a flying saucer styled rotating bar on top. This is by far my favorite place to stay in Atlanta. It's an easy walk to the Fox.

Also about a mile down the street is the Westin Peachtree Plaza, the tallest building in town and full of services. The tiled steamroom there is to die for. There's also a rotating bar on top of this hotel, if you're into that sort of thing. The views from this bar are much less obstructed by other buildings than the one in the Hyatt.

In that same area is the Marriott Marquis and the Ritz-Carlton, the two most luxurious downtown hotels, but without the crazy excessive new south flavor of the Hyatt and the Plaza. The Ritz-Carlton is seriously overpriced for Atlanta.

If you want to go a mile-and-a-quarter-to-a-half away, there's also the Marriott Residence Inn Midtown/17th Street. Smaller, and less expensive than the Marriott Marquis, but very comfy, incredibly nice for a hotel of its class.

I stayed at the Georgian Terrace Hotel several years ago. Most of the rooms are suites with kitchenettes because it used to be an apartment building. It's also right across the street from the theater. You might luck out and get a good deal.

I work in midtown and stayed in the Marriott Residence Inn mentioned above (Peachtree St NE and 17th) when I was in the process of relocating. It's clean, pleasant and the front desk staff was super-helpful. I don't know if this applies but they have a grocery shopping service, where you can make a list of groceries in the morning and in the evening, the groceries will be all put away in the kitchenette.

There's another Residence Inn on W. Peachtree and 14th, I got them confused when I first came here (went to the wrong one).

Georgian Terrace is an amazing old hotel / apartment building. It's almost as much of a tresure as the Fox itself and will definitely give you feeling of "old" (1910s/1920s) Atlanta. It ain't cheap.

Walking in midtown atlanta is quite safe. Staying north of North Avenue (one block south of the Fox and Georgian Terrace and the Hotel Indigo) will make it even safer. But yes, you can walk. There is a modern hotel at the Georgia Tech Conference Center, and one of the new-fangled "boutique" hotels at 12 Atlantic Station (this one is too far away to walk, as are the recommendations of 17th street -- 14th street is a doable and safe 10-12 minute walk to the theater).

There are also some B&Bs in old mansions on Myrtle and Argonne Streets (turn of the century -- the fucking yanks burned everything down that was antebellum). Shellmont, King Keith, Ansley Inn.
