USA blue-state MeFites: how to help campaign for Harris-Walz?
October 13, 2024 10:23 AM   Subscribe

I live in a non-swing state (WA) and have a small amount of free time evenings and weekends. How can I best support the Harris presidential campaign?

Esp looking for effective orgs/lists I can join to volunteer with. I've done letter writing in the past, happy to do that again if that's the best use of my time/effort. Or anything else that is effective.

Best answer: Seed the Vote - you can say ho wyou want to participate (phone, in-person, etc).

Best answer: Seconding Seed the Vote and adding People's Action. They're both coordinating phone banking. As far as I know, Postcards to Swing States has completed all 40 million (YES!) postcards for this election, but I guess check back, because cards are going out up until October 24th.

If you're willing to travel to Vancouver, WA you could also do some canvassing for Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez. Tough seat to hold onto, but is worth a shot!

I'm in WA too, and have been really energized to participate in the weekly Hour of Action organized by Climate Changemakers, happening on Mondays and Fridays. In addition to promoting Harris/Walz, the strategy is set up to elect climate champions up and down the ballot in swing states. Especially where there are tossup races. It's basically a virtual meeting with a brief orientation, and then we co-work to get stuff done like phone banking, letter writing, and planning our own in-person events to get out the vote. Here's where you can sign up for the one on Monday October 21, 5pm PT, and here's the full calendar. Thank you for making time to help out, we need all hands on deck!

Best answer: I'm in a blue state and I've done a little phone banking with Commit to Democracy this year; I think they're well run and I think they've got good campaigns (they're doing good campaigns in Arizona). Here are Commit to Democracy opportunities on Mobilize.us; you can also search Mobilize.us for whatever kinds of opportunities are a good fit for you.

(Also, it's been a couple months, but my FPP on volunteer actions has a lot of great info from MeFites about actions they're taking.)

Thank you for doing this!

Best answer: There are lots of phone banking and text banking options. Vote Save America is one place to find things to do. Field Team 6 is an org I've been text banking with. They're focused on registering people to vote.

Also volunteering for any of the NO on all of the initiatives in WA State would be super-duper helpful. If any of these passes we are looking at losing billions of dollars for education, transportation, and other important investments, while rolling back important climate change work.

Go to https://go.kamalaharris.com, pick "volunteering" from the menu. That will bring you to the page that includes "Make calls now" toward the bottom. Apparently that runs most of the day every day, to whatever the appropriate swing states are. If you are familiar with the process, you can skip the training.

I just discovered this today. My spouse and i will make good use of it . We are very excited about it.

Campaign on downballot races and do Postcards to Swing States or text/call swing state voters.
