Is this type of electronic problem fixable?

I have an air purifier -- basically this Levoit model, but without the wi-fi features -- that has served me beautifully for the past five years of essentially constant use and it was working right up until the second that I had to turn it off to change the filters. Now it won't turn on. Can it be fixed?
This has touch sensitive controls across the top of the unit, and that appears to be what's broken. The power works, as the unit lights up when I plug it in, and the fan was running just fine 2 minutes before when I started to change the filters. But touching the buttons simply does nothing, not even things that wouldn't affect the fan, so I can't turn it back on. Is there a way to fix this sort of thing that is electronic rather than electric or mechanical?
For me, I have already replaced it because I share a wall with a chain smoker and I can't spend even a single day without an air purifier running in my home, but these things are expensive and I have a brand new filter in it, and those are *also* expensive, and if there's a fairly simple fix maybe someone else could use it.

Manual for that model shows that there is a safety switch at the back near the bottom.
The back cover has a small triangular part at the bottom which has to depress the safety switch
Try reinstalling the back cover.

Look at the frame holding the filter and you should see something like a button or lever the presence of the filter keeps depressed and make sure the new filter is operating it. In some cases you might need to do a little judicious bending of the interlock mount to get things going again.
