Apple iPhone 13 Mini is slow to take pictures

I bought an iPhone 13 mini from verizon a year and a half ago. It takes forever to take pictures. What's my recourse?

Its laggy and barely works. I can't open the photos app without it crashing. What can I do? I reset to factory settings but that didn't fix it. Can I take it to the Apple store and will they fix it? Will verizon fix it? Will this cost me? I'm thinking of just upgrade because not being able to take pictures sucks, but it feels like I shouldn't have to upgrade a phone thats only a year and a half old. Thanks.

Is the memory full by any chance?

It's possible the camera module is damaged. If you bought AppleCare with the device, Apple will fix it for what's usually a fairly nominal fee. If you didn't buy AppleCare, it's probably a tossup between fixing it and replacing it. But Apple will gladly diagnose it and let you know. Calls to AppleCare are currently basically free, as I understand it - support.apple.com will get you started.

My understanding is that Verizon will, at best, pawn off somebody else's iPhone 13 mini trade-in on you, for better or worse.

If you take it to the apple store they can diagnose it fairly quickly with their in-house tools. If it's just replacing a camera module it probably won't be too expensive. They will likely give you a quote before you commit to any serious expense. It's worth a shot.

Are you sure you don’t have it set to take pictures in low light mode? That would explain the lagging, albeit not the crashing.

If it’s a software problem you might consider erasing all content and resetting it to factory settings (go to Settings and tap General > Transfer or Reset [device] > Erase All Content and Settings). Maybe do that more than once. Then do a clean install of iOS.

Is it saving photos to an SD card? If so, there are varying speeds of SD card; also SD card corruption could perhaps cause a camera app to crash. I would try backing up the SD card to a computer or the cloud or wherever the iPhone wants you to back up those photos, and then replacing it with a new one.

I am not an expert on SD speed classes - but here is an article that has some details.

Is it saving photos to an SD card?

To prevent confusion: iPhones do not have expandable storage using SD cards.
