2 No. Opposite. I've always loved spider friends.

I both read Charlotte's Web as a child and did a book report on it (which a very strict teacher declared it was the best book report she'd heard on that book & also the best book report ever, so I peaked in fourth grade). I also saw the animated movie (so the '73 animated movie).

Did I have arachnophobia? yes and no. Not too much longer after this experience, the movie Arachnopobia came out which made me both fear and love spiders. I was still scared of them but I was fascinated by them. I had a whole book and I'd go seek them out in my backyard. I get that's separate from Charlotte's Web but the two things were close enough that I connect them.

I read and watched Charlotte's Web and at age 4 made friends with a spider in my parents' bathroom (Mortimer) and refused to let them remove him from his corner home.

I did NOT like that awful rat.

edit to add: my delight in spiders has waned

Yes, and not particularly. I’m not keen to see one in the vicinity of my bed or food but not panic-worthy.

On the other hand, the Secret of NIMH made me terrified of rat colonies with Christmas lights forever.

1. read and watched.
2. mildly not a fan? There are other bugs I dislike much more, but while I'm okay with a general detente where I don't actively go after them (esp. in disused corners), spiders setting up shop too close to my bed or desk or other places I spend a lot of time will not find a welcoming environment.

(Other books with arachnoid characters - A Deepness in the Sky, Children of Time - have also failed to change this.)

Read and watched. I had a brief and very distinct period of arachnophobia when I was thirteen (so about 6 years after Charlotte). I remember trying to think about Charlotte to get over the fear, and it not helping. But it lessened on its own, and eventually passed.

Born in 1976, for reference.
Read more than once, and watched whatever the common 80s version was, lots of times. Pretty sure it was used as a read-aloud by my 3rd grade teacher, too.
Also saw Arachnophobia when it came out - I was 13 the summer it came out. Saw it and Young Guns 2 at the Drive In.

No fear of spiders whatsoever. They were common in the old farmhouse I grew up in.

At least, no fear until 2000, when I got bit by one and it put me in the hospital. (Black widows at my workplace, hobos at home, was bit at home in the middle of the night... never did determine what kind.)

Now, I'd prefer a little more distance, as in, not ON me.

1. Both

2. Yes (before and after, but never in conjunction with Charlotte's Web. Cartoon and imaginary spiders aren't scary.)

Read it. Definitely don't have a phobia, but spiders are creepier to me than, say, snakes or mice (both of which I like and enjoy holding or looking at up close.)

Read Charlotte's Web to my daughter when she was a child and then when she was a bit older and we read a book about tarantulas she wanted to get one. So we did. We still have a tarantula and I think it's basically attractive but not as appealing as a mammal or reptile or amphibian.

1) Read, watched, loved
2) absolutely, utterly terrified of spiders, to the point that I will almost immediately nope out of any video game that features spiders as any kind of adversary, and have only recently (in the last couple of years) been able to handle the presence of jumping spiders without resorting to violence. Will, and do, freak out when scrolling through social media and friends post pictures of spiders they see, have unfollowed people (not friends, just random follows) for it.

I did read it many times as a kid and watched it many times. It's a tear-jerker and the last line never fails to make me cry, even if I just think about it. But I still have arachnophobia, unfortunately. :( I understand the importance of spiders but the legs just creep me out. I leave them alone and don't mind if they're in a window, but get the heebie jeebies if they're crawling around in my space.

1. Yes. 2. No.

Im not sure if you're looking for a correlation between the two, but if there is one I really think its going to be more closely related to the culmination if your spider experiences as a child, as opposed to exposure to one particularly popular story.

I watched the cartoon version of Charlotte's Web when I was a kid, and I love spiders. Well, brown recluses can fuck right off, but otherwise I am very fond of my spider friends.

I'm curious if this question is to determine whether people who grew up with Charlotte's Web are less arachnophobic than most, or if it's to determine whether it's safe for somebody with arachnophobia to watch Charlotte's Web. In either case, I think anybody who encounters Charlotte's Web can't help being charmed by Charlotte. She's such a dear little lady. Some pig!

Yes, and...it depends. It's hormonal, weirdly? I can peg my fear of bugs and spiders pretty reliably to my hormone mix. When I was breastfeeding I very memorably once started crying from looking at a book of photographs of bugs.

1. Yes, read and watched.
2. No, I mostly enjoy them, except in a bedroom.

My two spider startle stories:

Once I was in bed, reading Ed Yong’s An Immense World, just starting out in a section about jumping spider vision, when a little salticid saltated directly into my hardcover copy of the book… causing me to panic and drop the book, which closed on the spider. I felt so bad I haven’t yet been able to finish the book.

Another time a relative and I were startled by a huntsman indoors while vacationing in Australia. (Arachnophobes, do not Google.) Not knowing what it was (and cognizant of my child sleeping nearby) we tried to kill it out of fear, but huntsmen are famously fast, and it escaped us easily. Once I was able to look it up later, I felt sheepish, and glad we’d failed — they’re massive but usually harmless.

1) Pretty sure I read it in school; may also have watched it
2) No. I don't have a phobia of any bugs except brown roaches, and I'm working on that (colourful roaches and mantises don't trigger my roach detection algorithm), and I particularly like spiders (I think they're cute). I don't love finding huge spiders in my home, but I'm very careful to evict them without harming them.

1. That was one of my favorite books as a kid, I read it dozens of times. Saw the movie a few times as well.

2. Was terribly arachnophobic until I lived on my own for a while. When you have to dispose of spiders yourself you lose the fear a bit. I still don’t love spiders but I can deal with the general household types without issue. However, you will never find me near a tarantula or anything on the larger side voluntarily.

1) Definitely read, a few times, both in class and on my own. Cried. I may have watched the film, but it would have been fifty years ago, so I can't recall. (However, checking the star-studded voice-cast at IMDB, I think I would have stood up and taken notice of all those voices I knew so well.)

2) I don't think I have more than garden-variety spider-avoidance, not full-on arachnophobia. Tiny spiders are a mild annoyance to me; Daddy-Long-Legs creep me out. But other creepycrawlies bother me significantly more.
