How to re-set Subaru key fob?
August 11, 2024 3:17 PM   Subscribe

The computer in our 2008 Subaru burned out, and we replaced it. The repair shop reset my husband's key fob, but not mine. How do I reset my Subaru key fob, rectangular type?

There are some conflicting online sites that make the project confusing. Some sites even say we MUST employ the dealership---?

Any and all answers welcome. Thank you, hive minders!

You didn't specify which model Subaru. Many, but not all Subarus of this year used chipped keys (does your key still start the car, just not lock/unlock it?) If it doesn't start the car, you're going to need a mechanic or a locksmith. (Or an aftermarket key that's cloned off your husband's)

If it truly is just a fob issue, I can MeMail you the instructions from my 2008 Legacy owner's manual. (Outback will be the same.)

Here's a link to the fob programming pages in the manual. When I attempted to re-orient them, imgur wanted to crop them, cutting off lots of the text, so I left them "sideways." Probably the easiest thing to do is to download and print them out for your reference.

2008 Legacy/Outback fob programming

Good luck!

Response by poster: Thanks for taking the time to send the info-- much appreciated!
Unfortunately it is an ignition issue.
