Give me your best treat but not break the bank Toronto sushi

My favourite sushi place closed before the pandemic. I need a new sushi place. Tonight. I want to spend, at most $80-$100, per person, but certainly would not complain about spending less. I do not want omakase. I do not want wine. I just want great, fresh, perfect fish. Downtown or west preferred. Also happy to hear your less splurgy favourites places for more regular take-out use.

We will be eating in. With my cousin (so not looking for a romantic spot or anything) and my 7 year old (so...you know, not anything that's not going to welcome a kid). 7 year old loves all things salmon so assuming they your sushi standards will be fine. We're probably not looking for all you can eat, just because all you can eat tends to have inferior fish.

For take-out we really like the new J-Mart on Carleton just east of Church. It's just a closet-sized shop with random Japanese foods, but their bentos, rolls and triangles are great for the price. No delivery or online menu, you have to go there and pick stuff up, and they are mostly a lunch hours shop, though late in the day there are discounts on what's left.

Some day we'll try Torch Pressed Sushi on Church just north of Wellesley but we haven't yet so can't make a firm recommendation other than they've managed to stay in business for a handful of years now so that's some kind of positive note.

This is a really tough ask for Toronto. There aren’t a lot of places catering to the mid-priced sushi market. You’ve pretty much got your ultra-expensive Michelin contenders and then a million places making dynamite rolls.

The one place that might hit this sweet spot for you in the west end is Oroshi. They’re a takeout. Sake Sushi on Roncesvalles is also a cut (or maybe like half a cut) above the typical quality of Toronto sushi.

Kibo is better than the "million places making dynamite rolls" but I'm not sure that I would describe it as "great" or "perfect". It is consistently good, though. They're good with kids. It's probably the thing closest to your ask that I know of.

Japango is a little better, but they are tiny, and they rush you out when you dine in. I'd rather eat at Kibo.

Oroshi is really great, but takeout and delivery only.

If you're willing to make it up to Yonge and York Mills then check out Shinobu.

Thirding Kibo as a takeout/delivery option. It's a chain and not the best quality ever, but it's good, consistent, and reasonably priced.

Sorry I'm late to this! Where did you end up going?

I suggest Yuzuki. I've never been there but found out about them from their fish market on Spadina (which I also haven't been to).

Less splurgy: Monkey Thai Sushi on Queen near Bathurst, which I have been to lol. I've gotten their veggie sushi party trays (for just me and my daughter, not a party) for $28 for 44 pieces. So they're super reasonably priced though I can't vouch for the quality of the fish. If you order on the Fantuan app you get a discount.
