Bee hive/nest filter

What is this? Looks like an old nest/hive to me, but not sure. On our three season porch. A few bees around, but not many. New England.

Honestly, it looks like a random piece of wood that someone used to gain leverage/grip while trying to adjust the blinds using the cord. However, I wouldn't risk your health on that assessment.

Yeah, that's a stick that someone wrapped the rope around, I think.
