Managed WordPress hosting for a small association

I am looking for the best managed WordPress hosting solution for a small association with a low-traffic website. They do not have the technical ability to manage their own server. I'm looking at WPEngine and DreamHost presently. Are there any other hosts I should look at? Any watchouts for WPEngine and DreamHost?

If you have no reason to rule out WordPress.com, it's a totally practical solution that is often overlooked. There's an $8/mo option that seems reasonable for a private group with no special hosting requirements.

At the moment, though, if you need any sort of involved theme customization or plugins, WPEngine might be more competitive on cost, depending on how their $20/mo plan sizes up against WP.com's $25/mo plan for your needs. Where, with less features, $8/mo wins over WPEngine's cheapest $13/mo (if 5,000 views is sufficient).

Anything that's in the ballpark of those costs would probably work. It's a competitive space, and not just for people on WordPress but also with Wix and SquareSpace always trying to pull managed hosting customers away from WordPress. The big hosting companies have a lot to lose if they leave non-technical customers frustrated.

I am in the position of being the small organization that needs help with website management and our WordPress developer (we have a lot of custom theme and plug-in stuff on our site) highly recommended using WPEngine.
