Does Eventbrite report earnings?

If money has been accepted for an Eventbrite event that I organized for an organization that I'm helping out but not hired by, do I have to report that to the IRS?

Does Evenbrite automatically report it to the IRS? The money is not going to me. Eventbrite is now asking for my Social Security Number which I'm hesitant to give but I assume is it's safe (?). Thanks for any help.

Best answer: I would assume that Evertbrite is asking because they will file a 1099 with IRS if the income reaches the reporting threshold. (Mostly likely the threshold is $600, depends the type of 1099 involved.)

Given that this involves money flowing in and out, I would want the organization to be identified here, not you. Does the organization have a formal existence including its own tax id number (EIN)? If so, use that. If not, I would ask their treasurer or president/chair to be the one responsible for receiving and disbursing funds not you.
