2x⏩🤔

My DvD player will, say 3x times a month, just start fast forwarding by itself, why?

It's a inexpensive GPX unit. I had an exact model that did this also but only a few times and was set up in the same place. Batteries and button are good as is the buttons on the unit. Only explanation factor I have is that it might possibly do this at scene changes but have not noticed it.

Could be an electrical short?

In the absence of better explanations....

There's a neighborhood kid outside with their own remote, fast-forwarding though the window, just to mess with you.

If not a malicious kid, it could just be stray IR from somewhere that happens to tickle it the right way.

Is it actually displaying on the on screen display that it's in fast forward mode, or is it just jumping forward on the disc _like_it's in fast forward mode? The latter could just be a sign of mistracking the disc for a variety of reasons.

Response by poster: stray IR is most likely. I noticed once it did it at a scene change.

LDS, I'd say the latter. I had an exact same model that did the same but only a few times. slight power surge is interesting.

OK, so if the on screen display isn't acting like it would if you pressed the fast forward button (or forward track skip) on the remote when the problem happens, it can't be stray IR. So, most likely mistracking. Causes: Discs in poor condition- scratched/smudged, binding/too much friction in the feed motor/rods that the laser slides back and forth on/ too much vibration in the environment (player isn't resting on a subwoofer or something like that?)
