Is there a way to recover a corrupted Word doc?

My computer restarted in the middle of the night and when I woke up I realized I had an unsaved word document that it did not give me the option to restore (which it usually does). I had my husband try to recover it with the .asd file but there are only a couple of readable sentences and then the rest of the document is gibberish. He says it's corrupted and doesn't know what to do. Is there still a way to recover this?

If it is Windows, set your file browser to show hidden files and there might be a temporary file that got saved at some point (typically with a tilda at the beginning of the filename).
