Chicken soup [e.g.] for the gluten-free soul - NYC

Looking for soothing celiac-safe soups in a sit-down setting. New York City, specifically. Second date.

I'm visiting a new friend [ooh la la!] in downtown NYC Sunday and she cannot consume gluten and is fighting a cold and wants a soup date.

I'm enough of a food-aware person to know that wheat-derived ingredients end up in a lot of recipes that don't need them and that servers or menus aren't always reliable sources of info.

Can experienced MeFites recommend restaurants that they trust to offer safe choices? The restaurant does not need to be 100% GF.

I'd love it if Veselka's [or someone else's] borscht [sans dumplings] might fit the bill. Or some knockout chicken soup.

Not a specific restaurant recommendation but Vietnamese pho uses rice noodles (as do many other Asian soups) so might be a tasty option to pursue.

My NYC restaurant knowledge doesn’t include downtown, but i recommend getting takeout from whatever restaurant you do choose rather than sharing your friend’s respiratory illness with a restaurant full of people right before Christmas.
