Hi all, I am wondering for the 1950s musical Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, where exactly is the location in Oregon does it take place? I cannot seem to find it and I am curious. I know it is set in 1850, but not sure where exactly?

If it's not stipulated in the text or other materials, the present day location could be in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming, as those states were either partially or completely in the Oregon Territory in 1850.

Here's the short story it's based on. No real-life location is given. I don't recall any specific location beyond "Oregon" being in the movie, but couldn't swear to it.

No specific location was given in the movie, but the outdoor scenes were shot in Corral Creek Canyon, Idaho and Tioga Pass, California.

My brother weirdly loved this movie when we were growing up.

Relevant-adjacent Followup: I 'm betting 0% of Here Come the Brides was actually shot in Seattle.

Nowhere. It's mostly soundstage and California. I scanned the text linked above for more clues and it mentions a "pass" and a "valley" which is pretty much everywhere here. I looked for more environmental clues and found a mention of snow in January which would probably place it outside of Puget Sound and the Willamette Valley. Sun Valley seems a likely as anywhere else TBH.

One of the songs mentions a polecat so that would have put it in the montana/wyoming part of the oregon territory, but that's wild guess.
