When is the IRS deadline for corrections to prior year 1040s?

My company made some retrospective changes to my W-2 for a previous year and I'll have to submit a corrected 1040. Is the filing deadline the same as the standard filing deadline, or just by the end of the calendar year?

Long story short my company had to make some corrections to their payroll formulas a while back and sent out W2C corrections after we had already filed our returns for that year. As a result, we have to send out the corrections to our previous 1040s (using the 1040-X form?) to the IRS (ditto for our state 540s). Are these corrected forms due at the same time as the usual filing deadline (April/Oct 15, depending), or would I have until the end of the calendar year to get them in? (I was under the impression it was the latter, but now I'm not so sure). The "you-are-not-legally-my-accountant" disclaimer applies here.
