Building a wall, hopefully non-hatefully

I'm thinking about getting a brick wall built to replace our chain link fence. Has anyone done this? How did it go? What should I look for in a mason? How much did it cost? (We're looking at about 60 linear feet.)

Follow Thomas Jefferson and build a crinkle-crankle wall? Fewer bricks.

The photo linked to by BobTheScientist would create heart attacks on this side of the pond,
It would never get a permit to be built
You have a brick or stone wall that is quite high, alongside a public footpath/sidewalk.
The worry is collapse of the stone /brick structure, on members of the public.
They also worry about lack of maintenance say 20 years down the road.

For that reason stone /brick walls are subject to regulation, virtually everywhere here.

Key element is height.
Anything over 3 or 4 feet may require a structural engineer to approve it.
Toronto has different rules for anything over 1 meter ( 3 feet 3 inches )
There may be a maximum height, someplaces ban anything over 6 feet.
Some municipalities require a permit for any brick or stone wall, regardless of height.

Check your local codes and bylaws.
A 4 foot wood or chain link fence is not subject to the same regulations a brick or stone fence is
