Phone to use for iBurn app at Burning Man (Galaxy s7?)

Newbie going to Burning Man. the iBurn app looks useful for getting around etc. I think I probably don't want to bring my regular phone around with me on the Playa. I have an old Samsung Galaxy s7 kicking around. It seems to be in working order. Will this work? Any security concerns I should watch out for in using an ancient phone like this? Should I be taking measures to disconnect it from my actual account etc?

The iBurn app runs offline. You could remove your sim card entirely (and I encourage you to disconnect while at the burn!) and it will still work. No security concerns that way.

Gives new meaning to the term "burner phone."

I would take the phone with the best camera.

I recommend just bringing your regular phone. Its familiar, it’s all set up. It will be fine.

Perhaps it will be lost. Or destroyed. You’ll hop online, remote wipe, borrow someone’s extra phone, and you’re back in business.

But that probably won’t come up.

Hey, I've been reading about the rain out there. Hope you're safe and doing okay.

Response by poster: Rain was all okay! (New stories captured the facts, but not the vibe, which was very positive and fun)

Phone was okay!! I just took my regular phone which was fine. Lots of people had their phones. iPhones as all like IP67 or ip68 rated- that "6" means they are as dust-proof as a thing can be.

Response by poster: Oh, also: The most surprising challenge of burning man was "day-to-day keeping track of all the crap you need". Being on the playa takes tons of gear, and staying organized in a tent is *hard*.

The phone was a *godsend* because it replaces: Camera, map, pen, notebook, flashlight, watch, wallet, guidebook, etc.. That's a lot of things to not have to find! Also I'm used to my phone being an object I carry around and don't lose, to it felt easier to keep track of it than, say, my cup, which I was constantly leaving behind everywhere.

You can off data/cell on the phone, and put it in "do not disturb" mode, and turn on airplane mode, so the phone does not become distraction
