What's the going rate for a white paper (in Canada)?

How much do you typically pay to have a white paper written? How much do you charge to write a white paper?

I've been asked to provide a potential client a quote for a white paper on a specialized/technical subject. I'm a professional writer with some very specific expertise in writing about the subject of the white paper.

While I have written white papers before, it has been a few years. I'm just getting back into the freelance market. I think I've been setting my rates too low, so I'm trying to rethink them before delivering this quote and really underpricing myself.

Both the client (an agency) and I are in Canada. The client's client (manufacturer/service provider) are also in Canada.

I'm happy to price by word or by project. I've already done some work for the client at an hourly rate, so I don't think I can bump that up (although I probably should, and I suspect I will in the new year).

You sure can bump the hourly, here’s how. Bid fixed price for the project. Estimate how many hours the project will take, add at least 25% to your hourly rate, then submit the bid for the paper.
