How important is "store in upright position" for injectable/chilled drug
August 9, 2023 10:06 PM   Subscribe

My cat's Solensia (a monoclonal antibody injectable drug) is in its unbreached glass vial inside a plastic jar in the refrigerator. Instructions say store upright (in refrigerator). The vial has probably been on its side for >20 days. Is this actually a problem?

Yes, it is expensive. Yes, it's a day or two late for his dosing schedule.

A humble thank you for any advice.

I'm a vet.

If a client asked me this I would ring Zoetis and speak to their technical team.

You may be able to call Zoetis directly yourself. Otherwise speak to your prescribing vet and ask if they can call Zoetis to ask.

I wouldn't presume it's okay. We called with an (admittedly different) question about it being out of the fridge briefly and transported from the practice to my nurse's house and the answer was surprising. I can't rememeber the exact details though, I'm sorry!

Response by poster: Called Jonathan's vet - They said they store it in a refrigerated travel bag sideways all the time, including for weeks at a time, and they know that it still works. So I went ahead and dosed him, and he seems fine. Thanks for the answers!
